Damn dude, this place is legit for Duluth. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I wanted to support my people's, and a hot bowl of noodle soup is required in MN winters. It was so good that I came twice over a weekend. Parking lot is a mess, it's hard to get in and out, it's fun watching the struggle. There's parking in back, but you'll save time just parking down the road and walking instead of trying to get a spot. Both times I dined there the place was packed, all tables were filled, and customers were constantly in and out for pickup. It's a busy atmosphere, staff are friendly and they're hustling. Staff have their purpose and they're doing their job to get people in and fed. I had their Bun Bo Hue the first time. Whoa. I really was not expecting a giant ass bowl. It was so flavorful, maybe slightly heavy on fish sauce, but the heat was perfect. I was not at all expecting this bowl of noodles to be spicy. I was expecting it to be heat level: "white people," but I was choking on that capsaicin my first sip and it made me so happy, I loved it. Second trip, I had the Bò Né, oh my god. Like what? How is this soooo good! I never see this dish in any Viet restaurant menu, I knew I had to have it, very reminiscent for me. I wanted to lick this damn dish up. The steak was so tender, sitting there in butter and its juices. Mop that up with the warm baguette with a dash of pate and crunchy daikon and carrots, just gimme this everyday. The fresh juices and smoothies were good too, very sweet, but refreshing. This is a joint I'll always hit up now while in Duluth. I may just make a special trip just for the Bò Né, and I have to try the pho. A friend ordered their pho, that broth was clear, I know it's gotta be good.
Small, family owned restaurant that has some of the best pho in the state (take it from a Vietnamese person, I'm particular about my pho and bun bo hue). Had the pho dac biet (pho special) and also ordered the bun bo hue to go -- both excellent.
I ordered the pho dac biet but without the tripe and a grilled chicken banh mi. I don't know how I also received a roasted marrow bone but OMG I gobbled that thing up so fast! Maybe it was meant for someone else so if you're reading this...I'm sorry, but know it was buttery and smooth. One of my biggest pet peeves is when a place skimps on the carrots and daikon so I was excited to see plenty on my chicken banh mi. The greens were fresh and the baguette was perfectly toasted. The pho was delicious and I'm sure I'll be back again soon!
When you get here parking is limited in the front but if you drive into the back of the restaurant there is more parking spaces. From my experience at Phoholic, the meal was a delightful journey into authentic Vietnamese flavors. I ordered a classic pho and a side of pot stickers, and each dish brought its own unique taste and appeal. Starting with the pho, the broth was wonderfully aromatic and packed with flavor--clearly made from a rich base of simmered beef bones and fragrant herbs. The noodles were perfectly tender, and the sliced beef melted in my mouth. What I enjoyed most was the balance of flavors: the broth was savory but not overpowering, and the fresh herbs and lime I added brought a refreshing brightness. The pot stickers were equally enjoyable. Each dumpling was lightly crispy on the outside, with a juicy, flavorful filling that paired well with the dipping sauce. They provided a satisfying contrast to the pho, adding a bit of crunch and an extra layer of flavor to the meal. Overall, Phoholic's food truly captures the comforting, vibrant essence of Vietnamese cuisine, and it was a thoroughly satisfying experience.
I got the brown sugar milk tea here and the pho, it was my first time trying pho both were delicious. The workers were really nice and the restaurant had super cute decor. Parking was a little tough
